This is a course designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate students. It requires elementary knowledge of the distinction between software and hardware, a basic familiarity with running and versioning code on your local machine in at least one programming language, and basic knowledge of algorithmic theory. In practice, these prerequisites correspond roughly to territory covered in CSCI0300 (Fundamentals of Computer Systems), CSCI0320 (Introduction to Software Engineering), and CSCI1010 (Theory of Computation). Previous coursework in or knowledge of machine learning is not strictly necessary, nor is previous participation in CSCI1970K (Agentic Coding, Spring 2026)—though both are relevant.

Prerequisites: CSCI0111, CSCI0150, and CSCI0190 (or equivalent).

Schedule

The Spring 2027 offering of this studio meets weekly on Fridays, 1.30–4.20pm. Class time will generally consist of a 1 hour lecture followed by a hands-on session, with a break in-between. The course structure listed below is subject to change.

The course is split into two successive modules, A and B. In module A, students learn about the architecture of an agential harness (AH), and iteratively build their own from scratch. In module B, students use their own AH to build a software project of their choice.
